Quite frankly I am bored with cloud computing and the various flavors of “aas” it provides. I mean why wouldn’t I be, I actively created, read, updated and deleted arcnet, file servers, ethernet, gopher, ftp, internet, hosted, managed, asp’s, virtualization, sans, saas, iaas, dbaas, paas, cloud, the list will go on.
I am not however bored with innovation, and because of aas it is happening exponentially and many of us are not even aware that we are participating in it. B2C apps like Uber, Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify have taken full advantage of aas innovation. They simplify the lives of users and their great user experiences allow for easy use again and again. “How many times have you sat down to watch one episode of “Orange is the New Black” or another show on Netflix and binge watched the whole season? It’s because the user experience is easy” (CMO Essentials).
Similarly, B2B companies and enterprises are realizing they want to both build their eCommerce solution and then purchase or order company goods in the same way. At this level, this can be achieved through cloud-based delivery methods that create a sophisticated B2B purchasing experience.
The cloud allows for a faster, easier, and better experience when it comes to B2B eCommerce. Here’s how:
B2B companies that take advantage of eCommerce apps built in the cloud can take advantage of the security, scalability and high performance it provides (for example, Four51 touts a 99.995% uptime). There’s no need to move and house a new server as you would with a premise-based solution. Implementation and education time is shorter because you have access to the most efficient distribution model through a multi-tenacy platform allowing instant adoption and scalability without additional equipment and staffing: SaaS, aka the cloud.
By harnessing this power, you make life easier for your organization because order and purchase processing can be done by the purchasers themselves. In fact, according to an Aberdeen Group Research report, customers utilizing cloud-based capabilities experience a 3.9% year-over-year growth in customer renewal rates and a 3.6% year-over-year growth for lead conversion rates.
Cloud-based platforms are designed to fully support complex product and pricing models across multiple channels on a single platform. Because it’s built in the cloud, customizing and personalizing the experience is right at your finger tips. This technology also gives you the ability to leverage a wide variety of cloud based services whose business is to provide features, resource allocation, instant ROI, security, performance and scalability to name a few (examples include ERP, CRM, Payment Systems, etc.) so that you can concentration on the business of delivering a world class B2B eCommerce SaaS experience.
So, what is not connected to this ecosystem? The software that created traditional IT. If your IT resources are not sitting side by side with operations, sales, services and support teams working directly in the business instead of supporting tools the business uses it is time for you to change.
It is time for you to “aask” about the Cloud.
