According to a recent post by Internet Retailer, B2B eCommerce sales are expected to top $1 trillion by 2020.
A Forrester Research report released today projects U.S. manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors will sell $780 billion to other companies via the web this year, and that growth is accelerating. Many business buyers prefer to shop online and sellers can cut costs by serving them via the web, Forrester says. ~Internet Retailer, April 2, 2015
While retail commerce might still be the “sexier” of the commerce channels, B2B is where the growth opportunity is today. Internet Retailer reports that B2B buyers are buying more online than through the phone and other offline channels. And business distributors in the manufacturing and wholesale distribution industries are realizing that B2B eCommerce will allow them “to cut operating costs by processing more sales to customers through self-service eCommerce sites and electronic processing of orders.”
